3 Day Tanzania Safari to Ngorongoro and Serengeti National Park

Overview

Every year millions of wildbeest migrate from Maasai Mara in Kenya to Serengeti National Park and back. This safari will start with 2 days at the famous Serengeti National Park, watching the vast grasslands. If you take the safari after the rains you will enjoy the beautiful grasslands mixed with wildflowers. Serengeti National Park also is home to the few black rhinos. The safari will take you on your third and last day through the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 1: Pick up Arusha – Serengeti

After breakfast driver from your hotel at 0730am then drive to Serengeti park. On arrival, continue to the Serengeti Picnic site for lunch. In the afternoon take a game drive within the park, The Park covers 12,944km2 of open plains making it one among the most important within the world. The rocky outcrops commonly referred to as Moru kopjes within the eastern a part of the park are of scenic beauty and infrequently cats are often seen lazing on them. The park contains vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other antelopes. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti safari lodge / seronela camp site


Day 2: Serengeti Half Day – Ngorongoro Crater

Wake up call as early as 0600am, you will have a cup of hot coffee or African tea, then proceed for the early morning game drive which will take you until 0930am when you will return for the main breakfast, this early morning game drive is very important as you will be able to see the morning kill from the big five. After the breakfast check out the camp or lodge and proceed for the final game drive as you check out the Park and proceed to Ngorongoro Crater, On arrival check in the Ngorongoro simba camp, Rhino or Sopa Lodge you will enjoy walking along the rim just in case time allows, this point is sometimes very cold and foggy but the capability of walking sideways the rim is a life time and unforgettable, you will also be gifted to see down the crater from the rim or from your room if you have binoculars which is a essential to have while on safari. Then the night will be spent on Ngorongoro Rhino lodge/ Simba camp for full board


Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Arusha

his day the breakfast will be ready as early as 0630hrs. After the breakfast check out the camp or lodge early in the morning as at 0730am, we will descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day explore game drive tour. We will have a picnic lunch and this will be served in the crater near the hippo pool, at this point you will be capable to stretch your feet and visit the washrooms. The Ngorongoro Crater is documented as a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site and forms part of an international biosphere reserve. The crater trials nearly 300 sq km and measures about 19 km across. SAFARI ITINERARY
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and you will travel to the Tarangire National Park. This park with its huge baobab trees, the perennial Tarangire River and seasonal swamps is home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. Animals gather at the river and you ought to be ready to see elephants, giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, dik-diks, waterbucks, warthogs and reedbucks all year round. Furthermore the park is additionally home to buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a variety of predators like lions. The herds of wildebeest and zebras journey within the short season of November and December from the hills within the north to the southern plains before returning to the north during the longer season of April to June. The location of the migrating herds is dependent on the yearly rainfall, but your guide will know where the best vantage points for wildlife viewing are. Day 3: Serengeti Plains – The best for big five

Be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at supplementary cost by per-arrangement). Floating noiselessly above the arising bush, while spotting wildlife and adoring the wonderful scenery of Africa, across rivers and over abundant small villages. We do an after breakfast game viewing drive sideways the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River, and which is sweet for likely Lion, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah sightings. Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After an early breakfast you will start your descent on a narrow and steep road to the crater floor. The crater is inhabited by a spectacular array of wildlife, which includes zebras, hippos, hyenas, wildebeests, warthogs and the famous “Big Five” – buffalo, rhino, lion, elephant and leopard. After extensive game viewing and a lunch at a picnic spot, you will leave the crater and travel back to Arusha, where you will arrive in the late afternoon.

Day 2 Tarangire National Park – Karatu

After a hearty breakfast you will head out on another game drive in the Tarangire National Park. You will stop at one of the picnic spots for lunch. In the afternoon, you leave this beautiful park behind. Passing through the multi-cultural town of Mto wa Mbu, the higher lands are soon reached and wonderful views of the Masai Plains and the Lake Manyara open up before you. After the obligatory photo stop, you will make your way to the vegetation-rich crater highlands. Day 3 Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

Today you will drive into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and down into the Ngorongoro Crater. Grass steppes and acacia forests are home to almost all the species of animals found in the East African savannah. In only a few hours, you have the chance of spotting the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard). After extensive game viewing and a picnic in the crater, you will leave the highlands of Ngorongoro in the afternoon and continue to the Serengeti. You will soon see the seemingly endless plains of the southern Serengeti and finally reach the Seronera Valley in the central Serengeti. Day 4 – 5 Serengeti National Park

These two days are dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. Your guide will take you to the best spots to observe the wildlife. Pick up from Arusha and transfer to Lake Manyara national park. We arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and after lunch do we head into the Lake Manyara National Park for an afternoon game drive. This national park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park), located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake.

Day 2 – Lake Manyara – Serengeti Plains

After breakfast we head towards the Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species.

We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti national park.

Day 4 – Serengeti Plains – Ngorongoro crater

After breakfast at the lodge do we depart to Ngorongoro Conservation area. We will stopover at Olduvai Gorge, boasting with a history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here, that the anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.

We arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and after lunch we will descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife for a half day’s safari tour. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is it’s dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually been seen here.

Day 5 – Ngorongoro Crater – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast we depart for the Tarangire National Park. The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season. The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. This African national park is also home to three rare species of animals – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, as well as a few Ashy Starlings. After a picnic lunch we do an afternoon game drive.

Day 6 – Tarangire National Park – Arusha

We enjoy an early morning game drive in the Tarangire National Park, followed by breakfast at the lodge. We will then transfer back to Arusha. You will be taken to your hotel, which ends our safari services.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will be driven into the Ngorongoro Crater for your early morning game drive. The main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is the crater, a large unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera. The crater formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two to three million years ago. It’s 610 m (2,000 ft.) deep and its floor covers 260 km2 (100 square meters). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from fifteen to nineteen thousand feet (4,500 to 5,800 meters) high. The crater is famous for the big 5 animals (Lion, Elephants, Rhino, Leopard, and Buffalo). Other animals you will see are Zebras, Gazelle, Wildebeest, Impalas, Hippos and different species of birds.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, we head for Serengeti with a packed lunch. Serengeti is the oldest and most popular national park, famous for its annual wildebeest migration. Some of the other animals found in Serengeti are buffalo, giraffes, elands, topi, kongoni, impalas, grant gazelles, lions, cheetahs, leopards and jackals.

Day 6: Lake Natron

After breakfast, depart to Lake Natron with packed lunch, crossing Loliondo on Waso Village, before heading down to the lake shores. Enjoy walks out on the mud flats around the shores of Lake Natron, viewing the lesser East African flamingo. Together with a local guide, make your way to the waterfalls for some relaxation and swimming before returning to Natron campsite.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, we set off from Lake Natron to Lake Manyara National Park. The park is 127 square miles (329 km2) and the lake’s alkaline waters cover approximately 89 square miles (231 km2). While most known for baboons, the lake and its surrounding area are home to other wildlife such as hippos, impalas, elephants, wildebeest, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes. You may also see the park’s famous tree climbing lions.

Day 8: Lake Manyara – Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, you will check out from the camp and be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home. this will be the end of 8 Day Camping Safari.
